Information Law and Policy
IT 801, Spring 2000

This seminar, led by Adjunct Professor Leslie Ann Reis and Professor George Trubow, considers the historical foundation and current status of information law and policies in America.

We're examining a variety of issues revolving around personal and organizational information that's held by third parties -- how it's gathered, used, and protected. Through discussions, hypotheticals, student presentations, and perhaps a lecture or two, the course explores many of the challenges facing information policy in the United States:

  • right of access to information
  • free-flow and use of information
  • creating and value of an individual's "digital persona"
  • roles of the government and private sector in protecting informational privacy
  • and many more.
