Department of
Transportation and Related Agencies and Appropriations
Act, 2000 (H.R. 2084)
Funding for Department of Transportation for the
fiscal year ending September, 2000. Sponsor: Wolf (R-VA).
Two amendments proposed by Sen. Shelby (R-AL) pertain to
privacy. Section 339 eliminates federal funding for
highway projects in states that sell drivers' license
personal information, motor vehicle records, or
photographs from drivers' licenses. Section 348 repeals
section 656(b) of the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations
Act of 1997, which required social security numbers to be
displayed on drivers' licenses. Currently in conference.
